Climate science graduate student opportunities

fugroThe senior geologist performs marine geophysical site investigation reporting under general supervision; independently interprets and assimilates geophysical, geotechnical, and well data; writes survey reports; makes project presentations to clients and provides geologic mentorship to junior staff members. A high degree of initiative and attention to detail are essential, along with strong communication skills. By its nature, the role requires a flexible person used to comply with deadlines. The successful candidate will be working in our Oslo office together with a team of highly skilled geologists, geophysicists, data processors, charting and GIS specialists, and project managers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Works independently to validate, interpret, and integrate various geophysical, geologic, geotechnical, and well data to form a comprehensive assessment of marine site conditions with regard to drilling hazards, rig emplacement conditions and routing of pipelines and cables.
Writes and prepares all aspects of survey reports; works closely with charting and GIS specialists; makes project presentations and frequently interacts with clients, contractors and in house departments on technical issues.
Actively contributes to the procedural and general geologic mentorship of junior staff members.
Contributes to project management and supervision.
Complies with QMS and HSE requirements.

Qualifications:

MSc within marine or quaternary geology, geoscience or geophysics. The ideal background would include a mixture of geomechanics, engineering geology, marine geophysics, and GIS applications.
Knowledge of the regional geology of the Norwegian Continental Shelf is an advantage.
Profound experience with interpretation of marine-acquired geophysical data, especially seismic data, is necessary. Experience with the interpretation of well logs is an advantage.
Proficient user of MS Office Suite and IHS Kingdom Suite; a high skill level on ArcGIS and SonarWiz or Coda is an advantage.
Excellent writing skills in English, including the proven ability to write detailed technical papers and reports, are essential. Excellent oral communication skills in English and good skills in Norwegian are required.
At least 5 years’ experience in marine site investigations with experience interpreting most associated geophysical data types and exposure to multiple associated project types.
