The Hawai’i Institute of Marine Biology at the University of Hawai’i invites applications for a full-time, 11-mos, tenure-track research faculty position in coral reef biogeochemistry at the rank of Assistant Researcher. HIMB is part of the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology at the University of Hawai’i at M?noa. The successful candidate will be expected to develop extramurally funded research programs and to mentor graduate students. The level of State support will be equivalent to nine (9) months per year, with the other two (2) months to be raised through extramural funds.
We seek applicants who will build a strong research program that complements the expertise of our existing faculty. It is essential that applicants have a strong field component to their research to take advantage of HIMB’s unique location. Individual qualifications and academic excellence, rather than specific research area, will be the most important criteria in selecting the successful candidate. Minimum qualifications: a PhD in oceanography, biogeochemistry, ecosystem ecology, or related biological discipline and a demonstrated capability for creative, high-quality research.
To apply, send electronic copies of (i) a curriculum vitae, (ii) a concise statement of research accomplishments and future goals and their pertinence to HIMB, (iii) three representative publications, and (iv) names and contact information for five references. Applications (.pdf format preferred) should be sent to the search committee chair, Dr. Megan Donahue (firstname.lastname@example.org, 808-236-7417). Review of applications will begin on August 15, 2013.
