Graduate Studentship Opportunities in hydrologic and oceanographic

Energized and aspiring graduate students in hydrologic and oceanographic studies with a focus on water qualities in inland and coastal waters

Graduate research assistantship is available to support student pursuing M.S. or Ph. D. degrees in the Department of Earth System Science and Policy (ESSP) at the University of North Dakota. A unique feature of ESSP is that it provides a student-centered learning environment with expertise in hydrology, oceanography, climate change, terrestrial ecosystem, physical geography, economy and policy.

ESSP is actively pursuing and involved in federal funded researches. The current researches include: remote sensing of water quality in coastal and inland waters (funded by NASA), impact on water qualities by land use change as a result of bioenergy production in marginal land (funded by USDA), regional climate change and impact on hydrological cycle (funded by NSF). Candidates should have a B.S. or M.S. degree, preferably in a physical science discipline. While not required, a prior knowledge in remote sensing and GIS and skills in programming are a plus.

Tuition plus research assistantship at approximately $1,500 per month for an M.S. candidate and $1,800 per month for a Ph. D. candidate will be provided for successful candidates, who are expected to conduct these funded researches and report the results in scientific conferences and peer-reviewed journals, leading towards a successful completion of graduate degrees.

To enroll into our graduate program you have to meet the minimum requirements on academics and English proficiency, please refer to this link for qualification, http://graduateschool.und.edu/graduate-students/new/admissions-international.cfm. If you earned a Master degree from a non-North America institution, our university will check on its equivalency to a North America M.S. degree and it is possible that our university does not recognize your M.S. degree. You have to complete the application through our University’s Graduate School before we can review your document. The tuition waiver and graduate assistantship are offered on a competitive basis. We will make decision after reviewing your application package along with others.

If you meet the minimum qualifications and would like to know more about these positions, please contact Dr. Xiaodong Zhang (zhang@aero.und.edu) for further information.
