We are currently seeking applications for an Inshore Fisheries Ecologist vacancy in the Marine Ecosystems Team of Marine Scotland Science based in Aberdeen. This post contributes towards Marine Scotland Science’s Sustainable Fisheries Programme, designing and executing scientific and field studies, communicating results and providing advice on inshore and shellfish fisheries assessment and management to Scotland’s Inshore Fisheries Groups (IFGs), policy officials and inshore marine stakeholders.
Duties include the provision of advice on the data and information requirements for inshore fish/shellfish stock assessment, fisheries management and evaluation of the wider ecological effects of fishing, working with the fishing industry to develop data collection systems. You will analyse data, prepare reports and present results of research to science customers and marine stakeholders. You will also participate in the Marine Ecosystem’s Team fisheries/ecological data collection programme. This involves working on board research vessels and at land based locations around Scotland.
Qualifications & Experience Required
You must hold a minimum of 3 SCE Higher or A Level qualifications with one being English. Please note, only grades A, B and C are acceptable. Other qualifications equivalent to these may also be acceptable. The successful candidate will require relevant research experience in fish / shellfish biology or marine ecology with proven ability to plan, manage and deliver on research projects and prepare scientific reports. The successful candidate will also need to provide evidence of numeric, data handling skills and statistical expertise applied in the analysis of biological, ecological or fisheries data.
