National Coordinator of Coastal Erosion

The Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI) is a Swedish governmental authority that is commissioned to have a coordinative role in reducing the risks of coastal erosion and damage caused by such erosion in Sweden. We seek a Geotechnical Engineer or Earth Scientist, with comprehensive experience of investigations and R&D concerning coastal erosion, who will be our national coordinator and develop the R&D at SGI further.

Our aim as a coordinating authority is to contribute to preventive measures or restorative actions through suitable land use planning and well-designed measures for threatened buildings, infrastructure and other areas worthy of protection. We provide support to municipal rescue services for risk evaluation in emergency situations and establishes networks with Swedish and international authorities with responsibility or involvement in issues connected with coastal erosion.

Your working tasks will be to examine permit applications where issues of coastal erosion are concerned, to build networks and coordinate responsibilities between Swedish authorities and work actively for increasing the awareness of coastal erosion in the community. You will also initiate and lead R&D-projects in collaboration with national and international partners.
