The department wishes to appoint a post-doctoral research scientist to work with Dr Carl Sayer and colleagues in the ECRC to develop the use of aquatic macrophytes as indicators of water quality in UK freshwater lakes and to explore the value of plant and animal macrofossil remains found in lake sediments to track changes in freshwater biodiversity.
The post is funded for 12 months from 1 February 2012 in the first instances.
Applicants must have a degree in aquatic biology or similar and have expertise in aquatic plant taxonomy and the analysis of macrofossils. Skills in a range of multivariate ecological statistical techniques will be essential as well as previous experience of Common Standards Monitoring and Lake Habitat Survey.
