Under the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology in Scotland (MASTS) pooling initiative, recently funded by the Scottish Funding Council, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Strathclyde is seeking to appoint a senior academic (at Senior Lecturer Reader or Professorial level) in Marine Modelling. You will join the current EU, Scottish Government , NERC and EPSRC funded staff of the MASTS team, which will be augmented over the next 12 months by further postgraduate students and research staff.

You will be a quantitative scientist, internationally recognised as a numerical modeller of marine physical, biological or ecological systems providing policy oriented management and marine ecology research and advice, will be expected to play a key role in an expansion of policy related research activity in the Department. In order to carry out this role the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a track record of working with international bodies engaged in delivering scientific advice to fisheries and marine managers, and in responding to requests for scientific advice from government, non-governmental and media groups. Existing contacts at the policy and research level within the Scottish and UK governments will be a highly desirable attribute, as will evidence of leadership within competitive international research programmes in both the UK and European arenas.
