3-Year Post-Doc Position in the field Marine Geocience and Global Change

The IACT develops several research lines, one of them is Marine Geosciences, which focus on the multidisciplinary study of present-day continental margins and basins. The studies comprise different spatial and temporal scales in different regions of the world, with a particular focus in the margins and basins around the Iberian Peninsula and several regions of Antarctica.

Within this general profile (Marine Geociences and Global Change), we are looking for a candidate to work under the framework of the research project entitled: CGL2011-30302 Postglacial and Climatic evolution of the shelf off the Guadiana River, funded by the Spanish Government. The main goal of this project is to reconstruct the postglacial evolution of the Guadiana Shelf, by relating the different depositional systems (incised valleys, shallow-marine deposits) with the leading influence of eustatic sea-level changes during the postglacial transgression and of climatically-induced changes in sediment supply during the Holocene Highstand.

The research work will mainly comprise the geological interpretation (geomorphology-stratigraphy) of a suite of marine geophysical data, including multibeam bathymetry, diverse types of high-resolution seismic data and ancillary geophysical/sedimentological data. The main study area will be the continental shelf of the Gulf of Cádiz (NE Atlantic Ocean) influenced by the contributions of the Guadiana River, but eventually it may comprise also the interpretation of marine geology data from nearby areas.

Requirements:

Applicants should have completed a PhD degree in Marine Geology within the last 10 years.
A solid publication record on the subject and capacity for team work.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Closing date: Applications can be submitted until January 10th 2012, or until a qualified candidate is identified.

To apply, please send a statement of interest, a curriculum vitae, Ph.D. certificate and the names of two references to:
